The second week in May is traditionally set aside to celebrate our unsung heroes, Nurses.
A lot of people seem to think nurses make a lot of money, and want to know "how much do you make?"..."HOW MUCH DO I MAKE?"
I can make holding your hand seem like the most important thing in the world when you are scared.
I can make your child breathe when they stop...
I can help your father survive a heart attack...
I can make myself get up at 5AM to make sure your mother has the medications she needs to live...
I will work all day, 12 -14 hours, or more, to save the lives of strangers, and make my family wait for dinner until I know your family member is taken care of...
I make myself skip lunch or wait to pee, so that I can make sure that everything I did for your husband today is charted...
I make myself work weekends and holidays, because people just don't get sick Monday to Friday.
I might be the one who opens the eyes of a newborn, or closes the eyes of the dying...
I might be the one who cleans your bottom, scrubs your feet and sprinkles powder in unholy places, yet you yell at me, after giving a waitress 15% for getting you a glass of water.
Today I just might save your life. How much do I make? I make a difference.
I am a NURSE.
